M. Chapoutier et Lucidi

“A challenge, an instant friendship, an encounter.”

For two hundred years, the M. Chapoutier winemakers have made some of the greatest Rhone wines. So it was almost inevitable that they should plant vines on the Chasse-sur-Rhone hills.
Two men, Michel Chapoutier and Paul Lucidi, set themselves a challenge: to plant vines at the heart of the Rhone hills terroir, near the town of Chasse-sur-Rhone, opposite the Côte-Rôtie vineyards.
The name Lucidus, from the Latin meaning dazzling, full of light, has been given to three fine wines made with Syrah or Viognier. Generous and simple, matching well with everyday cuisine. A wine to drink for pleasure.

The vintages

LUCIDUS ROUGE

• The Vineyards
Grape variety: 100 % Syrah.
Terroir: Chasse-sur-Rhone, schist hills facing south. The schist has a foliated appearance, smooth and shiny. It contains micas (giving it its dark colour), but also quartz crystals.
Viticulture: The grapes are picked by hand when they have reached their optimum phenolic maturity.

• In the Cellar
Vinification: The grapes are picked by hand when they have  eached their optimum phenolic maturity. Thanks to its vinification in a concrete vat with maximum thermal inertia, Lucidus is a wine that is both powerful and delicate Maturing: The wine is entirely casked in Burgundy barrels, 20% of them new. Bottling takes place 15 to 18 months after harvesting.

LUCIDUS BLANC

• The Vineyards
Grape variety: 100% Viognier.

Vinification: They are pressed and casked in 600-litre barrels, where the alcoholic fermentation takes place.
Maturing: The wine is matured for 12 months on fine lees, stirred each week for three months, and then once a month. Bottling takes place about 10 months after the harvest.
